Hello

This is Yupeng. I am currently a graduate student researcher at the Hyundai Center of Excellence (HCE) at UC Davis with Professor Margolis pursuing my M.S. degree in Mechanical Engineering. My research interests are in using Bond Graph Modeling and MATLAB/Simulink to do multi-body simulations and investigate the behaviors of system dynamics.

My Story

My background in robotic competitions during middle school and high school got me interested in Mechanical Engineering and here I am. I was introduced to Bond Graph at the end of my junior year at UC Davis and was immediately attracted by its convenience and effectiveness in dynamic modeling. As Professor Margolis and Professor Karnopp, two of the authors of the textbook for Bond Graph, are both faculties at the Mechanical Engineering Department at UC Davis, I decided to continue as a graduate student to further practice and discover Bond Graph at their Hyundai Center of Excellence. At HCE, the focus is to use multi-body simulation to seek insight through models of vehicle dynamic systems with Bond Graph as the modeling tool and MATLAB/Simulink as the simulation tool. Due to my background in robotic competitions, I do have some extra interest in building hardware prototypes with Raspberry Pi/Arduino to validate ideas.

When I am not drawing Bond Graphs or running Simulink, I am a competitive cyclist in road cycling. In the 2021-2022 season, I am the collegiate individual omnium winner of the western conference.
